WIRED photo essays

I came across some interesting photo essays on WIRED’s site today, see below:

Classic Computer Manuals and Plans from Apple and IBM here.

A Photo Essay of Classic Instruction Manuals here.

A History of Microsoft Windows here. It is interesting how much in the early days Windows shadowed Apple’s OS and now Windows is shadowing Linux.

Museo Sans

The Exljbris Font Foundry has been providing beautiful fonts for free for some time now. Their newest addition Museo Sans is no exception.

Get Out the Vote

“AIGA invites designers from across the United States to create nonpartisan posters—and now, YouTube submissions—that inspire the American public to participate in the electoral process and vote for a presidential candidate in the 2008 general election.”

Posters will be exhibited at AIGA National Design Center in NYC, September 11th – October 24th. The center is located at 164 Fifth Avenue (between 21st and 22nd Streets).

Sneeze

I stumbled across this earlier today while walking to brunch. Little did I know this box was the only place to purchase this magazine in NYC, and the whole East Coast.

From the Sneeze website:

STREET BOX PROGRAM
The goal is to create a
destination for the reader by
having one box per city in a
select location — like a
flagship store.

More info on Sneeze can be found here with a preview of the first issue here.

The magazine can be also purchased on line here.

Static vs. Dynamic

37signals did a great job at articulating the reasons for not using Photoshop for web page mockups. Why show something that is dynamic in such a static form? Read the full post here.

Also, I recently came across an interesting article on 37signals in Wired. It was very inspirational to hear about a design and software team stripping things down to their essential elements as well as having a very refined work flow. Read the article here.
