Arizona All City?

All City
“Up on all lines…as much as humanly possible”
Skeme

This post has been sitting in my drafts folder for some time now, being unsure of what I really want to write about Arizona’s newest beverage.

I had first noticed Arizona’s new beverage on my way to work a few weeks ago, while walking down Vandam Street. On the corner of Vandam and Hudson I noticed a van that appeared to be painted, from top to bottom, with a brand new piece. My interest was piked, that is till I got closer and noticed it was a van with the All City logo painted across it. Two things crossed my mind, what does graffitti and the term “all city” have to do with an Arizona energy drink?

Is Arizona actually giving a homage to graffitti culture or is this a marketing tactic? If it is indeed a homage wouldn’t it be more appropriate to have limited edition cans done by writers that have gone all city? The one thing that keeps playing over in my head is the Fruity Pebbles commercial with Barney rapping.

I agree that the graffiti does look great, and the campaign is executed well, for what it is. I would have liked Arizona to take a different approach more along the lines of Ecko and Adidas.

Stars of the Lid played a limited amount of shows recently, one of them for the Wordless Music Series here in New York. Unfortunately, I was unable to get tickets for the show but, Radiolab has posted their live performance here. As expected, it is blissful. Enjoy.

Static vs. Dynamic

37signals did a great job at articulating the reasons for not using Photoshop for web page mockups. Why show something that is dynamic in such a static form? Read the full post here.

Also, I recently came across an interesting article on 37signals in Wired. It was very inspirational to hear about a design and software team stripping things down to their essential elements as well as having a very refined work flow. Read the article here.
